GSL Blog - Home Office Workspace

Photo of a desk with a MacBook Pro in the centre. There is a wide screen positioned above the MacBook screen, and a portrait format screen to its right. To the left of the MacBook is an external keyboard mounted near vertical and a red box with controls on the front beneath it. On the wall high above the wide monitor is another screen.
We love this screen configuration.
The landscape screen on the right is great for long sections of code or looking at a whole page of a Word document (at a decent character size).
The wide screen allows easy editing of those Excel files with lots of columns, or a handful of code windows.
The MacBook Pro’s beautiful internal screen is always used for Zoom, Teams, Skype or WebEx calls (as using the wide screen forces the contact to look up your nose).
We use the MacBook’s internal keyboard because of the amazing TouchBar (sadly scrapped in later models).
We don’t use a mouse because of the powerful gestures that come with Apple TouchPads.
The extra keyboard on the left provides single touch typing of text blocks (and powerful macros) courtesy of the Keyboard Maestro app - very handy. The red box beneath is a Focusrite Scarlett sound interface used to connect a boom microphone which needs phantom power into the MacBook.
The screen above has an old AppleTV fixed behind it for keeping an eye on Sky News. It’s that high up because the desk cranks up for standing.
We have since started to use a GoPro Hero 10 on a mini tripos as a webcam as the image is so much brighter than using the internal camera. Hope this is of interest.
